Sharing my engagement rings journey

This is my first post on this sub even though I’ve been married five years now. I thought some context would be helpful, so:

My husband and I have been together since 2011. We had always dreamed of escaping the midwest and moving to the mountains. We went camping in Colorado as often as we could in those early years, and each year it got harder and harder to drive back home across the plains.

When we decided to get married in 2017, we had decided to make the move happen and were saving every penny we could, to go towards buying a house in our dream location. So for my engagement ring, I got an inexpensive CZ set in sterling silver from Etsy. It’s a 9×7 pear shape with a halo and a decorative band. It’s pretty, sparkly, and everything I needed at the time. We eloped to our favorite camping town in CO and then went back home and kept working towards our goal.

We finally made the move to Colorado in late 2019. After settling in to our new life, I ended up discovering r/moissanite. Through that subreddit I learned how affordable moissanite rings could be, and I got my first “upgrade” ring, my 12×8 crushed ice oval from Tianyu in early 2020. Folks, I was hooked. Moissanite became my new obsession. Over the course of the next 2 years, I ordered, enjoyed, and then sold, around 20 rings.

Fall of 2022 was our 5 year wedding anniversary (and the 10 year anniversary of the day we met) and my gift from my husband was my very first diamond I’ve ever owned. Lucky for me, lab diamonds have gone down to incredibly affordable prices now and I snagged a gorgeous 3.5ct J color round from Debebians.

I feel now like my engagement ring journey is complete, but that won’t stop me from continuing to explore designs, and sometimes still adding and subtracting from my little collection.

I want to say thank you to all the jewelry lovers who hang around here and the other jewelry subreddits. I feel like I have a little community where I can enjoy sparkles and adornments of all kinds with like-minded magpies, and I can’t wait to see what you all adorn yourselves with in the years to come!
